The highest rated hotel in Gunsan is two star. You won’t find any that are up to the western three star or higher standards, but if you are like me, and always stayed at the motel six or other cheap place in the states, then you will find the hotels pretty reasonable.
If you are looking for a hotel in Gunsan, the best thing to do is call Kunsan Airbase housing office and ask them to recommend a few places. Korea wide information (in Yongsan) is direct dial 011-82-505-723-1110 and they should be able to give you the number to Gunsan lodging office.
If your contract is an approved SOFA contract, you can even stay on post lodging (might need a letter from the Squadron that employs you though).

Also, you’ll pretty much have to fly into Incheon Intl Airport near Seoul. From there, bus is probably best. If you’re working for USFK, they have a reception center in the airport and run buses directly to the base. If not, express buses might run to the town or run to larger terminals where other buses definitely do (good luck with that if you’re unfamiliar with korea. The trains would be even harder).
